First Notification Period Deadline

First Notification Period Deadline
Nov. 1

October 28, 2009

The First Notification Period deadline for domestic freshman applications is November 1. Applications that are complete with all required materials postmarked by November 1 will have decisions made on or by January 15.

Note the following very important points:

  1. “Required materials” are the application itself, $44 application fee, official transcript(s), and official test score(s). We do request letters of recommendation and the High School Counselor Form (PDF, 37K) from all applicants, but an application will technically be “complete” and reviewed for decision in the absence of these items.
  2. The likelihood of admission remains the same between the First and Second Notification Periods. All applications completed by February 1 receive full and equal consideration. If you do not complete your application by the First Notification Period deadline of November 1, it will not adversely impact your admission decision.
  3. Admission decisions will be made and sent throughout the notification period(s). Therefore, some students will receive a decision before the notification dates of January 15 and March 15. But all students who complete their applications during the respective notification period will be guaranteed a decision on/by the stated date.
  4. Per item #3 above, the impact on time-to-decision for a student who does not complete his or her application by November 1 will not necessarily be the full two months (January 15 to March 15). Decisions will roll out prior to January 15 and straight through to March 15. This fact should further alleviate the pressure to complete an application before the First Notification Period deadline.
  5. Students can continue to check the status of their admission decision online. For instructions on how to do so, please visit our Check Application Status Web site. It may take up to a week for the online service to reflect a decision once it has been made.
  6. Decision letters are mailed on the day after a decision is made, so some decision letters will arrive after the stated notification date.
  7. Admission decisions will not be given over the telephone or via e-mail under any circumstance.
