Each year we welcome close to 2,000 transfer students to UW-Madison. These students decide to join us for a variety of reasons and from a wide range of colleges and universities. But when they arrive on campus, they immediately become a member of the Wisconsin community. In fact, one in five UW-Madison students begins as a transfer student.

Who is a transfer student?

A transfer student is anyone who has attended another college or university after graduating from high school and wishes to enroll in an undergraduate degree program at UW-Madison. In order to be eligible for transfer admission, you must have completed at least 24 semester hours of college-level work. (We do not admit freshman-level transfer students.)
