Official Transcript Requirements for International Applicants

All applicants are required to submit official academic records, which are the equivalent of grades 9-12, for all schools*. They must be issued by the school, in the original language. An English translation should also be provided if the official transcript is not in English. All students must complete their studies and earn their respective credentials (certificates, diplomas, etc.) before enrolling.

*If studying in a 13-year system, academic records for grades 10-13 are required.

Country-Specific Requirements

Documents submitted to UW–Madison as part of the application review process will not be returned.

The country specific information provided below is based upon a student's level of education at time of application. All students currently enrolled in high school/upper/senior secondary will be required to provide us with a list of their current courses in progress.

*Transfer applicants will be asked to submit university transcripts, university courses in progress, and high school documents.

If you are currently in high school: Official transcripts from years 9, 1, 2

If you have completed high school: Official transcripts from years 9, 1, 2, 3. (Completion of Certificado de Ensino Médio)

If you are currently in high school: Official transcript from years 9, 10, 11

If you have completed high school: Official transcript from years 9, 10, 11, 12

If you are currently in year 1 of CEGEP (colleges d'etudes general et professionnelles):

  • Official transcript from years 9, 10, 11
  • Official copy of Diplome d'Etudes Secondaires (SSD/DES)
  • English translation of all documents

If you are currently in year 2 of CEGEP (colleges d'etudes general et professionnelles):

  • Official transcript from years 9, 10, 11, 12
  • Official copy of Diplome d'Etudes Secondaires (SSD/DES)
  • English translation of all documents

If you are currently enrolled in upper secondary school: Transcripts from lower middle school/初中 (chuzhong) (grade 9), upper middle school/高中 (gaozhong) (grades 10-11), in both Chinese and English.

If you have completed upper secondary school: Official transcripts for Lower (初中 (chuzhong) and Upper Middle school (高中 (gaozhong) (grades 9-12), along with your graduation certificate (普通高中毕业证书 (putong gaozhong biye zhengshu).

If you are currently enrolled in high school (lycée):

  • Transcripts from lower secondary (college) showing the equivalent of 9th grade
  • Transcripts from high school (lycée)

If you have already graduated:

  • Transcripts from lower secondary (college) showing the equivalent of 9th grade
  • Transcripts from high school (lycée), and the baccalauréat.

Advanced standing credit for the Baccalauréat is awarded on a case-by-case basis.

Official copy of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)

If you are currently enrolled in high school: Freshman applicants must supply a copy of their grade 10 secondary school examination board results officiated or attested by their school. Freshman applicants must also submit internal grades for coursework taken in grades 11 and 12, through time of application. To enroll, students must supply an officiated or attested copy of their grade 12 senior secondary board results.

If you have completed high school: Attested secondary and senior secondary/intermediate education board results.

If you are currently in high school: Official transcripts for years 9, 10, 11, along with predicted IB grades if available.

If you have already completed high school: Official transcripts for years 9 and 10, and IB Diploma results sent directly from the International Baccalaureate Organization.

If you are currently in high school: Grade 9 exam results (SMP) and grade reports for 10, 11.

If you have already completed high school: Grade 9 exam results (SMP), grade reports for 10, 11, and grade 12 exam report (SMA or STTB).

Students should submit all lower and upper secondary external examinations. This includes lower secondary school scores on the SRP, SMR, PMR or PT3. Tests taken after Form 5 such as the MCE and SPM also need to be submitted. Students who attended a Chinese independent school are required to submit results from the UEC.

Competitive applicants should have at least one year of schooling beyond Form 5. Students should submit all official transcripts and test scores from any additional schooling including IB, AP, A Level, STPM and American degree transfer programs.

Students in an American degree transfer program should apply as a freshmen if they will have completed two semesters prior to beginning study at UW–Madison. Students who will have completed more than two semesters must apply for transfer admission.

  • Official copy of the General Certificate of Education Advanced Subsidiary (AS) if available, or internal transcript
  • If your Advanced level courses are in progress, please submit predicted A-level results.

If you have already completed high school:

  • Official copy of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) (Singapore O-Levels)
  • The General Certificate of Education Advanced Subsidiary (AS)
  • The General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level (A-levels)

* Singapore Integrated Programme: students enrolled in the six-year Singapore Integrated Program (IIP) will not be expected to submit O-Level Results. Instead they should provide official documentation of their participation in the IP curriculum, along with internal transcripts from the final two years of secondary school and current progress in Junior College (or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme).

If you are currently in high school: Official transcripts from years 9-11.

If you have already completed high school: Official transcripts from years 9-12.

If you have already completed high school: Official copy of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), the General Certificate of Education Advanced Subsidiary (AS), and the General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level (A-levels).

Cambridge Pre-U: GCSE results (9th and 10th grade) as well as predicted Cambridge Pre-U scores.

If you are currently enrolled in high school: Year 9 junior secondary school transcript and external leaving examination results (GABECE in the Gambia, BECE in Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, LJHSCE in Liberia), as well as senior secondary school transcripts for Years 10-11.

If you have already completed high school: Transcripts for years 9-12 and official WASSCE Statement of Results. WASSCE results must be verifiable online; please send your examination number and a scratch card serial number plus PIN. For Nigerian applicants, we also accept Senior School Certificate Examination results from the National Examination Council (NECO).

If you are currently enrolled in high school: Official transcripts from your U.S. high school, as well as transcripts for any secondary work (grades 9-12) completed prior to enrollment in a U.S. high school. Your current U.S. high school may submit their copy of your prior school transcript.
